April 24, 2013: An eight-story building housing garment factories in Dhaka, Bangladesh collapses, killing 1,129 workers and injuring 2,515. A day earlier cracks had been found in the structure, but factory officials, who had contracts with Benneton and other major U.S. labels, insisted the workers return to the job the next day.

The percentage of working-age Americans with jobs is at its lowest level since 1979…Last week, the Congress heard from businessmen and women stranded on flights delayed because of the furloughs of air traffic controllers. Spurred by the anger of the moneyed class, it took only four days for the supposedly gridlocked Congress to "circumvent" the sequester for airline passengers…. It's no secret that when money talks, Congress listens.
